Express Transcript
Getting Started
Your first transcription in under 2 minutes
No account required for your first file. Just upload, transcribe, and download.

Step 1 — Upload your file

Go to audio-to-text.online and use the uploader on the landing page. You have three options:

File size limits: The landing uploader accepts files up to 500 MB. Once you're on a paid plan, every paid plan supports up to 5 GB per file (~10 hours of audio).

Step 2 — Supported formats

Express Transcript supports all common audio and video formats:

If your file plays on your device, we can almost certainly transcribe it. There's no need to convert formats first.

Step 3 — Wait for processing

Click "Start Transcription" and Express Transcript will handle the rest. Processing time depends on file length, but most files under 30 minutes complete in less than 60 seconds. You can close the tab — transcripts are saved to your dashboard if you're logged in.

Every transcription includes:

Step 4 — Export your transcript

Once processing is complete, click "Export" to download in your preferred format:

FormatBest forExtension
Plain TextQuick copy-paste, notes.txt
PDFSharing, archiving, printing.pdf
WordEditing in Microsoft Word / Google Docs.docx
JSONDevelopers, data pipelines.json
CSVSpreadsheets, data analysis.csv
SRT SubtitlesYouTube, Premiere Pro, most video editors.srt
VTT SubtitlesWeb video, HTML5, Vimeo.vtt

Export toggles let you customize your output:

Importing from a URL

Click the URL import button on the uploader and paste a direct link to an audio or video file. This works with any publicly accessible file URL. Note: direct YouTube URLs are not supported, as this would violate YouTube's terms of service.

Recording in your browser

Express plans include a built-in recorder. Click the microphone icon in your dashboard to start capturing audio directly from your browser — no external app needed. When you stop recording, the audio is automatically sent for transcription.

This is ideal for meetings, interviews, and lectures when you want instant text without saving a file first.

Step 5 — Sharing & collaboration

After transcription, you can share your transcript in several ways:
